10 Meaningful Places to Visit that Probably Aren't on Your Radar

Harry shared 10 places that he’s been (and loved) that aren’t your typical vacation spots. You might want to add these to your family’s bucket list!
1. Tuvalu
The country is comprised of islands in the Pacific Ocean. It is about 2 hours by plane from Fiji.
Because there are so few visitors, they really welcome you as their own. People are so friendly here!
Your kids won’t have any trouble making friends here to play with!
Fun fact: The airport only has flights twice a week. On the other days of the week, people in the community use the tarmac to play sports and host community events.
There is one hotel available to stay at. Then a few lower-end hotels will be open for you.
2. Rwanda
This country is a great place to experience the “Heart of Africa”.
In comparison to other African countries, Rwanda is more welcoming and friendly to visitors. It is also easy to navigate.
Kigali is a great city to spend time in. There are many activities that you can find nearby.
Take a gorilla safari!
Everyone here speaks English.
3. Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands are part of the Kingdom of Denmark and are located halfway between Denmark and Iceland.
Experience beautiful waterfalls and hikes through green hills.
You can take ferries between the islands.
This place is very safe! It is great for families who love to be in nature.
The Faroe Islands are a lesser-explored gem.
4. Uruguay
This country is between Argentina and Brazil and doesn’t usually get as much attention as its neighboring countries.
Uruguay is very developed and less chaotic than other South American countries.
There are beautiful beaches along the coast. Punta de Este is a very famous beach here.
Montevideo has lots of great architecture that’s worth exploring.
Uruguay is a great mix of beach and city.
5. Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia is so beautiful and has amazing mountains!
There are lots of small towns each with their own cultures.
The food is also amazing. They make all types of meats and great salads. Lots of great local, fresh foods!
The country has a great mix of cultures. Some parts look like Vienna, and others like Istanbul.
Bosnians are very friendly and laid back.
If you’re open to renting a car and you like scenic drives, this is an amazing location!

6. Sao Tome and Principe
This country is made of two small islands off the west coast of Africa. The equator runs right through it!
This country used to be part of Portugal, and you can see a lot of Portuguese influence throughout it.
It is very safe and the people are friendly and laid back.
They offer great sailing trips around the islands.
Visit colonies and learn about African indigenous culture.
Great seafood and meat options!
Principe has great locations for diving! There are also very nice resorts here.
7. Armenia
Armenia is a very mountainous country that is landlocked by Georgia and Turkey.
This is a great country for people who love to learn about history and culture.
Many places that you might stay or visit have a Soviet feel to them because the buildings are a bit older, but it’s amazing here!
There is great river rafting through rapids here. This is a great adventure option for families.
Armenia is a great mix of history and natural wonders.

8. Oman
This Middle-Eastern country is located in the South of the Arabian Gulf.
Oman is a great combination of beaches, desert, and sand dunes.
It is well-developed with nice roads and towns. However, there isn’t much of an urban feel.
A great alternative to Dubai! Oman has very kind people and a slower pace.
Be sure to eat kebabs with hummus when visiting!
9. Romania
Located in Eastern Europe.
Tons of medieval castles to visit! You can see the castle that inspired Dracula in Transylvania.
There is a ton of diversity throughout the country. There are beautiful mountains and landscapes to explore.
Visit “The Happy Cemetery” with colorful tombstones! They tell the stories of the deceased people in funny, humorous ways on the stones.
10. Caribbean Island of Dominica
Great country to visit for hiking and trekking through the mountains. There are many waterfalls and jungles to explore.
It is absolutely beautiful and full of adventure activities.
There are not as many developed resorts as in the other Caribbean islands.
You can get here by plane. You will probably have to make connections to other airports first.
