Daytrips are economical:

  1. You can go when you have a day off of work (no vacation time spent.)

  2. You can enjoy nature for free! Bike, hike, picnic.

  3. You can pack food for the day if you don’t want to eat out.

  4. Go to National Parks for a minimal cost.

  5. No hotel/lodging cost.

  6. You can bring along a mommy’s helper for the day. You pay her admission in trade for her helping with the kids.

  7. Look a Groupon to find discounted admission to local places.

Daytrip Tips

  1. Set a schedule and commit to doing a day trip a leas quarterly.

  2. Keep it simple.

  3. Look at cities that are just a couple of hours away from home. This will expand your options.

  4. Pack a lunch and then eat out for dinner. It’s a nice way to balance the budget and trying new things.

  5. Many science centers and zoo memberships work in other cities. If you have a pass, check and see If it works in another location and use it there.

  6. 4th graders get in free to the National Parks. Sign up your 4th grader for a free park pass.

  7. Remember that daytrips are about creating family memories and just being together. Don’t overschedule the day.

Bonus info on documenting your adventures!

  1. Try to journal while you travel.

  2. Create an annual photobook for your family. You can add to it each Sunday.

  3. Use Chatbooks to print off favorite pictures and memories.
