Travel Accommodations Matter! How to Select Hotels that Give Back to the Local Community

Did you know that when you choose to stay and certain hotels, they use some of the proceeds to give back to the community? Meg James from Go and Do Good joins Lisa to talk about how you can make a difference in the world by selecting certain hotels to stay in when you travel. Learn about how hotels help improve their local areas and how you can help when you travel.

How does choosing certain hotels help give back to local communities?

You (anyone!) can make a difference by choosing a Good Hotel®: I have currently identified about 200 hotels around the world that give back generously to charities, ministries or their local communities.

Examples:

The Russell, East Nashville boutique hotel, provides showers, overnights, and meals for the local homeless funded by one’s hotel stay there.

Sol y Luna in Peru is running a school for 250 impoverished local children who wouldn’t go otherwise due to the funds from their hotel.

What is our most important resource?

Environmental doing good is important but nothing like People-centric doing good: It’s great to reduce towel usage in hotels, cut down tp usage for trees, but the real change happens when hotels focus on people. Meg’s directory of hotels highlights hotels that give back to God’s greatest resource: people.

Go and Do Good is a non-profit, and it’s Meg’s heart’s desire to transform the travel community into more than just a check list or staying at a hotel because it’s easy; I challenge the traveler to aim to feel good about their hotel choice and to make it generational. When we’re writing for a good hotel, our young boys ask us how we’re giving back that trip.
