Looking to do something new this weekend? Since we can’t travel every weekend, why not be a local tourist when we just want to add a little excitement to our lives? Here’s my list of ten ways you can explore your hometown this weekend.
How to Be a Tourist in Your Hometown
Visit a farmer’s market. We seem to fill our Saturdays with other activities and don’t make time to visit our local farmer’s market. We need to go soon!
Try a new restaurant. One of my favorite things about traveling is trying new restaurants and new food. Why not do this while you are in town too?
Visit a new (to you) park. Take the kids out to a park you haven’t visited before and I’m sure they will love it.
Invite friends to join you on a hike. It’s always more fun to hike with friends!
Go on a photography hunt. Do a web search for the best photo spots in your town and then go and check them out. You could also do a search on the most “instagrammable spots".”
Go to a scenic spot and watch the sunrise or sunset. Just take time to sit and enjoy the beauty around you.
Get a treat at a new (to you) treat shop. Have you heard friends talking about a new treat place and you keep thinking that you should go? Why not do it this weekend?
Visit a museum. It seems like this is something we hardly ever do in our hometown. We get to museums when they are a field trip for the kids or we have someone in town visiting. Why not head out and explore a local museum?
Try out an Airbnb Experience. This is part of the Airbnb site where locals can host experiences for their guests. There are so many different things offered like art walks, photography scavenger hunts, cooking classes, comedy nights, and so much more.
Do the touristy thing most people love to do when they visit your town. Do you have a hop-on/ hop-off bus tour, a segway tour, cooking classes, or bungee jumping near you? Do a web search for the more popular things to do in your town and pick one that sounds like the most fun for your family.
