11 Reasons Why Japan is a Favorite Country to Visit Right Now

If Japan isn’t already on your travel bucket list, it will be after this episode! This week Doni Belau joins us to talk about why Japan should be on your travel radar.

I haven’t been to Japan yet, but it is high on my list!

Food

  • The food is very fish-heavy. But there are also great pork options!

  • There are a lot of restaurants that focus on only one type of food (ex: noodles, sushi, tempura, ramen, etc.)

  • Sushi - the classic Japanese food that we all know about. Japan takes it to the next level!

  • Kaiseki - tiny portions with lots of courses. Food focuses on the season.

  • Tempura - there are restaurants that specialize in only tempura.

  • Step out of your comfort zone and try new foods!

Culture

  • Japan’s culture is very intricate and takes everything to the next level (food, architecture, etc.)

  • This culture is unlike and incomparable to any other places. It is so unique.

  • Japanese people love to celebrate their seasons. They get so excited about the leaves changing, cherry blossoms blooming, and all other natural changes. They celebrate the change and impermanence of things in life.

Wooden temples

  • There are temples and shrines all throughout the country

  • Doni’s favorites are the wooden temples. There is so much history behind these temples.

  • They have so much character and bring so much peace

Tea Ceremony

  • This is a physical way that Japan has incorporated Zen Buddhism into their lives

  • You are typically in robes and go to a room with a tea master

  • No words are spoken, but the ceremony is very moving

Zen Garden

  • Ryoanji gardens are a must-see!

  • These gardens have beautiful rock formations and intricate landscaping

  • This is a great place to feel at peace and have moments of reflection

Ryokan

  • This is a traditional Japanese inn

  • These are typically family-run

  • The rooms have tatami mats where you sleep. There is no excess furniture and everything is very simple.

  • Many people spend their time at the ryokan in their robes and slippers

  • Breakfast and dinner are usually included. The food is amazing!

Onsen resorts

  • These resorts have the best spas!

  • They typically have natural hot springs

  • This is a great place to relax and take care of your body

  • There are also saunas, cold plunges, clay masks, and so much more! They offer a variety of services!

  • There are kid friendly resorts, so be sure to look for them!
