Fun Things to Do in Sedona, AZ on Your Couples Getaway

Sedona is one of our family’s favorite places to visit! This episode will dive into all the details of planning an amazing Sedona getaway for adults. Whether it’s with your significant other, a girls trip, or older family vacation, we have all the info for you!

Being from the Phoenix area, our family has spent a lot of time in Sedona. When our kids were young, we frequently visited Sedona as a weekend getaway. Sedona has become much more high-end than it used to be, which isn’t a bad thing, it’s just something to be aware of! It is such a beautiful city with so much to see and do. Let’s get into the details!

How to get there

  • Fly into Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, AZ

  • Rent a car and drive about 2.5 hours to Sedona

Transportation

  • You will want to have your own car on this trip, especially if you are flying into a different airport.

  • A car will be necessary to get around town. You could probably Uber most places, but we’ve always been glad to have our own car.

Accommodations

  • We have always stayed at the Wyndham resort when visiting with our family. We have been staying here since the early 2000s when we purchased a super cheap timeshare through them! We like it because of the extra living room space, a kitchen, and multiple bedrooms.

  • My husband and I stayed at L’Auberge de Sedona which was fantastic! It’s right on the creek and so beautiful. They also have a great hotel and spa.

  • Airbnb is also a great option! There are options for bigger and smaller groups.

What to do in Sedona

  • The hiking is fantastic! I love hiking, so I’m biased, but it is seriously amazing! The red rocks are so beautiful and the views are great. Here are some hiking recommendations for Sedona:

    • Subway Cave: Start EARLY! This hike gets super busy and you’ll want to beat the crowds. When I did it, our group arrived at 5:30 am and we started hiking in the dark. Getting there early also allows you to beat the crowds to the end of the hike at the cave. There are great photo opportunities here. I wouldn’t recommend taking small children here as there is a big drop off into a crevice.

    • Devils Bridge: This hike is fairly easy at about 4 miles roundtrip. I would start very early on this hike as well. This is a very popular hike and can get super overcrowded. There is an amazing natural bridge at the end of the hike with beautiful views!

    • Cathedral Rock via Baldwin Trail: This hike is about 6 miles roundtrip. The views were amazing from the top and it was so much fun! This would be a great hike to bring a picnic to the top and spend some time hanging out here.

    • West Fork Trail: This hike is great for all ages. It is pretty flat, but still fun! There are multiple river crossings and the scenery is so beautiful.

  • Vortexes and energy healing is a big deal in Sedona. Here are some ways to play into this:

    • Take a yoga class

    • Go to a spa for a massage

    • Mind & Body experience. I loved this sound bath with Kim!

  • Pink Jeep Tour

  • Hot air balloon ride

  • Mountain biking

    • I recommend having some experience beforehand, as even the “easy” trails were a little tricky for me as someone who doesn’t usually mountain bike

    • We rented bikes from Hermosa Tours

Where to shop

  • Bohemian Dreamer: Owned by Rachel. It was a peaceful and beautiful shop. The store has lots of crystals and different jewelry. Rachel also does tarot card reading, which I’d never done before, but tried it as it felt like the Sedona thing to do.

  • Tlaquepaque: Beautiful shopping center with lots of art and cool shops

  • Uptown Sedona has a lot of the tourist shops

  • Hiker House: carries a lot of outdoor brands

Where to eat

  • Pisa Lisa: Woodfired pizza restaurant with great pizza, salads, gelato, and more

  • Fresh & Natural Thai Kitchen: Thai food with a healthier twist

  • Mariposa: Go around sunset for stunning views! The food is high end and delicious. Make a reservation a few months out if possible.

  • Dahl and DiLuca: Make reservations about 6 months out if you can. Very high end and I’ve heard the food is incredible.

  • The Hudson: Elevated American food with amazon views. I would try to make a reservation here.

  • Elote Cafe: Mexican food! They offer takeout as well.

  • Casa Sedona: This is a restaurant in a hotel. They require reservations if you aren’t staying at the hotel. This is great for breakfast and lunch.
