Show Notes

Have realistic expectations. Teens lead a very busy and demanding life while they are at home. Let them rest, sleep in, and relax during a vacation.

Plan in downtime.

Plan active activities too.

Let teens help choose the activities you will do while traveling. It seems to work well when parents research the destination and narrow down the activity options and then the kids can choose from a short (parent-approved) list.

Great Places to Travel with Teens:

Dude Ranch: Relaxing for the entire family since meals and activities are planned.

National Parks: It’s always great to be outside and explore together.

Theme Parks: Consider bringing a friend if parents don’t want to go on all of the rides.

All-inclusive Resorts: This goes well when you bring along extended family (cousins!) or a friend.

Domestic Outdoor Adventures: Multi-day river rafting, biking rides to new destinations each day.

International Adventures: Teens are at a great age to explore outside of the country. Let them help you decide where to visit!

Cultural Immersion: No matter the destination, you can always learn more about the history and people in a new area. Teens can understand so much, ask great questions, and are ready to learn.

Wildlife Experiences: Weave this into different trips. Kids, teens, and adults usually love to see and learn more about wildlife in new areas.

Service Trips: This is a great way for teens to get out of their comfort zone, focus on others, and increase their gratitude for all they have at home. Want more inspiration on this topic? Check out these two other podcast episodes:
