100 How to Make Travel Meaningful with Travel Goals in 2021

After surviving the ups and downs of travels in 2020, I think many of us are feeling ready to get out and explore in 2021. The problem is that we still have restrictions without a clear end in sight. What can we do to stay positive, continue to discover ways to explore with our families, and still enjoy a slice of the travel life this year?

There is hope for meaningful family travel this year! (Just as there was in 2020 despite the challenges.)

Go somewhere new this year!

Today I want to share five of my 2021 travel goals that I hope will bring interest and excitement into an uncertain time.

Travel Goals

  1. Go somewhere new. This doesn’t need to be to a faraway destination but it will encourage me to visit a new place this year. Tip: Do a web search for “day trips near (your hometown.)” I did this with a search for day trips from Phoenix and was reminded of Jerome, Prescott, Joshua Tree National Park, and Saguaro National Park. These are all places we could visit without a lot of time, money, or planning.

  2. Getaway each month. Again, this does not need to be something far away from home. It can be a hike that is only 10 minutes from your house, a nearby city where you rent a vacation house or a scenic drive. The point is that time will be cleared for stepping away from normal duties and will give space and time for your family to explore and spend time together.

  3. Make plans and be ready to change them. It’s all about flexibility this year so I figured that should be one of my goals just to remind me that change and adjusting expectations is okay and probable.

  4. Say Yes! to last-minute getaways. Sometimes I get hung up on planning and making sure everything is perfect before leaving on a trip. This year, I want to be more spontaneous and say yes to cool travel opportunities that present themselves.

  5. Keep it simple. This year, I want to simply my travel expectations. I want to set myself up for success and have realistic expectations based on the pandemic circumstances.
