If you are planning a trip to New York City with your family, you will have plenty of ways to fill your time. If you are looking for some unique opportunities, here are three things your family can do.
Electric Scooter Tour Around Central Park
We booked this experience through Airbnb Experiences and we thought it was fantastic. Riding around on electric scooters is a fun way to tour the park. It allows you to cover a lot of ground in just two hours.
Although we booked through Airbnb, the tour was with Bike Rent NYC. It was just our group of four on this tour.
We got to see many landmarks, have plenty of time to take pictures, plus enjoyed zipping around the park on scooters.
I wouldn’t take younger kids on this tour but tweens and up would love it. There are also options for bike tours if that would suit your group better.
Enjoy Time in a Bookstore
With all of the hustle and bustle that happens in a typical NYC tourist’s day, a stop in a local bookstore can help balance out the energy of the day. We spent some time browsing The Strand Book Store and really enjoyed the variety of books and gift items.
I think a children’s book about NYC purchased in NYC would make a fantastic souvenir!
After we returned home from the trip, I looked up local bookstores in NYC and found this great NYC bookstore list. Hopefully, I can visit other bookstores in the future.
Go on a Dessert Crawl Tour
This was another tour we booked through Airbnb Experiences. We did the Hell’s Kitchen Dessert Tour and the tour company was Sugar Tooth Tours.
This was a private 2-hour tour where we walked through the Hell’s Kitchen area of Manhattan. We got to learn about the history of the area plus we visited 6 different treat shops and sampled something at each shop.
The tour company did a great job selecting locations. We ate a nice variety of treats: pie, baklava, cookies, cream puffs, chocolate chip sourdough, and cupcakes. Don’t worry, you can get your treat to go to enjoy later if you can’t eat it all!
This company offers a variety of food tours and I’d definitely do another one on a future visit.
There is so much to love about NYC! I hope you get to visit with your family and try some of these fun ideas.
