My 11 Favorite Apps to Use to Find Great Things to Do on Family Vacations
Groupon. Type in your destination at the top of the app and then search a category you’d like to learn more about. Some options are things like kids’ activities, tickets & events, and fun & leisure. Groupon offers discounts to the places listed in the app so it can be a good way to save some money!
Google Maps. Did you know that you can type “things to do in Phoenix” (or any city!) and the map will share ideas with you and show you where they are located on the map? Really fun, right? You can search specific categories like games & arcades, attractions, museums, parks, and more.
StubHub or Ticketmaster. Both of these sites are great for searching events going on in the area you will be traveling. Search for concerts, theater, and sports events. Be sure to look at the total price before booking because these sites can have some bigger fees.
AllTrails. This is a great app if you are looking for a hike. You can search for hiking, trail running, mountain biking, and more. The trails are rated with difficulty and an estimated time for completion. One of my favorite features is the reviews that app users leave where they use the trails.
Facebook. Did you know instead of searching for a person, you can search “things to do in Austin” in the search box? Groups, pages about the destination, and local events will all come up in the search. You could join a group while you are preparing for the trip and then leave the group once you are home.
National Park Service. You can save your favorite parks and makes lists of things you want to do in the parks. You can also download maps and lists so that you will have access to that information while in the park without phone service.
Viator. This is a great site to search for activities and tours and then book them. You can manage your tickets and reservations in the app. One of my favorite features is a chat area where you can chat with tour companies after you’ve booked a tour and ask them questions.
Airbnb Experience. We know Airbnb is a fun app to search for places to stay when traveling but it’s also a great place to discover and book tours with locals. I’ve seen a huge variety of activities offers like jewelry making, cooking, dessert crawls, photography sessions and more.
Pogo Pass. Use this link to save 50% pogo passes. Normally $100, so $50 with this link! This is offered in a few US cities. You pay just under $100 per person and then get admission to many local attractions. If you will be visiting a place Pogo Pass is offered for at least a week, this is something you may want to check out.
Trip Advisor. You can discover things to do all over the world on this app. I love reading the reviews of different activities before deciding to book them. You can also book hotels, flights, cruises, and just about any travel-related activity on this site. But I primarily use it to discover and book travel activities.
Roadside America. This is the only app on my list that does cost money. (It’s currently $2.99.) This shows you quirky and unique places to stop on your road trip. You could also use it to find places to see closer to home. Things like the biggest doughnut statue, strange museums, cool neon signs, and graves that you won’t want to miss are highlighted in this app.
I hope some of these apps help you discover some memorable activities to do with your family on your next vacation.
