I had a great time visiting Cincinnati, Ohio a couple of weeks ago. Here is a list of some of the best things to do with your family in Cincinnati!
Eat at Skyline Chili
Before traveling to Cincinnati, I research the best things to do, and so many people said that you HAVE to try Skyline Chili.
This restaurant is known for its “3 ways spaghetti” which is basically spaghetti topped with chili and a huge mound of cheese.
However, I ran out of time and wasn’t able to try it! So if you try it, DM me on Instagram to let me know how it is!
Oktoberfest
Next to Germany, Cincinnati is known for its Oktoberfest celebrations!
If you’re interested in Oktoberfest, this might be a destination for you to look into.
Cincinnati Zoo
Although I wasn’t able to make it here, I have heard that Cincinnati has a great zoo! This would be a good option especially if you have kids.
This ice cream place is SO good! We were lucky enough to stay in a hotel close by and we had to try it out. A great option if you want to try a local ice cream shop.
They have all sorts of ice creams and sundaes!
Murals
Cincinnati has over 150 murals!
In order to cut down on vandalism, the city put together a plan to cover the city in murals!
Findlay Market
This market has been there for over 100 years!
It’s made up of booths primarily selling food.
They had everything from baked goods to cheeses, and meats or vegan shops and chocolate booths!
Enjoy the Riverwalk
Take a stroll along the Ohio river!
Miles of walking and biking paths
There is a bridge to take you to Kentucky!
Cincinnati Art Museum
This museum had art ranging from modern pieces to mummies.
I would recommend about an hour of time to see everything.
Great American Ball Park
If you’re in Cincinnati during MLB season, check out a baseball game here!
It’s also a cool stadium to check out even if there aren’t any games while you’re in town.
National Underground Railroad Freedom Center
This center walks you through the history of slavery from its beginnings through its effects today.
This is definitely a heavier place. I don’t know if I would take young children to this museum due to the weight of the topics, and there aren’t any interactive exhibits. But I think that this would be a really great stop to take your older kids.
Food tour
I booked this through Air B&B Experience and we were paired with a company called Riverside Food Tours.
We learned SO many great facts about Cincinnati and we were able to see so much of the city.
Once we got to the restaurants, they already had tables ready for us which was super nice! They also prepared us smaller portioned meals so that we could try more places.
Bru Burger Bar was so good! Definitely a great place to grab a burger.
Nicholson’s Fine Food & Whiskey: We ate some delicious bangers & mash!
Mazunte Centro: Delicious taco restaurant! I liked it so much that we came back again another time on the trip. The food was also very reasonably priced.
Then we took the street car up to Findlay Market. Here are some things we tried:
Cheesecake with caramel sauce from Makers Bakers
White champagne cheddar cheese slice and s’mores fudge from Gibbs Cheese
An assortment of chocolates from Maverick Chocolate Company
I love how the company picked out great savory options followed by some sweet treats!
The Street Car is totally free
This car takes you along a 3-mile stretch through the city.
You can hop on and off throughout the ride!
More restaurants
Sleepy Bee: Great breakfast and brunch place! This restaurant was so cute and fun! I would recommend making a reservation if you plan on going. Great breakfast sandwiches, frittatas, and so much more.
Saigon Subs and Rolls: Super yummy Vietnamese pho! Very reasonably priced and we got our food very quickly.
Ways to get to Cincinnati
Cincinnati is very central to a lot of places. If you live in neighboring states, the easiest way is definitely to drive.
If you plan to fly, there is an airport in the city: Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
Is Cincinnati safe?
During the day it was great! The streets were super busy with lots of people out and about.
The nighttime felt a little sketchier, but it was still ok! I was alone walking at night many times and I didn’t feel unsafe. However, I probably wouldn’t have kids out doing things by themselves at night.
Transportation
We decided to use Lyft and Uber for our trip, which was the best decision!
A rental car would have been about $450 for our trip, and all of our Ubers were around $75.
Once you’re in the city, you can walk almost everywhere!
I hope you enjoy your adventures in Cincinnati, Ohio!
