How to Travel to London with your family on mostly points and Miles

This week Aimee Crosby joins us to help you understand how to use points and miles to travel to London with your family!

How do I start planning a trip to London with points?

  • Start with flexible points. These points give you more flexibility in how, where, and when you use them.

What is a good credit card to use as a beginner?

  • The Capital One Venture card is great for starters! And it has a low annual fee!

  • You earn 2x the points on every $1 spent

  • Aimee loves to use the Capital One points on flights

  • This card has many partners that they let you transfer points to

  • However, the Chase Sapphire card is the best option for booking hotels. They allow you to book at Marriott hotels.

How many points do I need to spend on a London trip?

  • Look for flights around 20,000-30,000 points

    • Business class is 50,000-80,000 points

  • Be aware that you will usually have to pay some sort of fee for flights in addition to using your points

How do I accumulate enough points to take your whole family?

  • Put everything that you can on your credit card!!! Be sure to pay it off.

  • If you have someone that you can get a card with, then work together to earn points

What are the best ways to get hotel deals?

  • Don’t transfer your points until you are really ready to book.

  • The Great Scotland Yard is a great hotel to stay in! It’s within walking distance of so many destinations. This is a great hotel to stay for your first London visit!

  • The Hyatt Regency is also a great hotel in a different part of town and is in a less touristy area.

Other tips for visiting London

  • You might want to rent a car if you want to leave the city. However, if you aren’t leaving the city, the public transit is amazing!

  • Give yourself plenty of time to see the big sites, but also save time to see other things outside the city.

  • The Tube (subway) takes tap-to-pay to get on! Or set up a transit card to simply tap as you walk through.
