I have planned a lot of family vacations in my life and I’ve learned a lot along the way. Here are 3 tips that I’ve learned to help simplify my travel planning.

1. Use Google Sheets

I love using Google Sheets while planning trips. It helps me to stay organized and have all the information in one place. Google Sheets also makes it easy to share with your family members. You can allow other members to edit or view-only. It’s also convenient because the spreadsheet can be accessed on my phone as well as my laptop.

2. How to use a spreadsheet

I like to put in all of our dates and locations along with corresponding accommodations and excursions/ticket info. Here are examples of columns that I usually use:

  • City

  • Day of the week

  • Date

  • Time (of events)

  • Details (flight info, accommodations, events, links to events/places to go, etc)

  • Cost

3. Utilize a shared calendar

We like to use Google Calendar so that all of our family can access the family calendar. Here is info that I typically put in the calendar:

  • Dates and times of flights

  • Times we need to arrive at events

  • Set reminders for booking specific events that are further out
