Things Not to Miss When Visiting Michigan
Visit Mackinac Island. Take a ferry to this island to relax, shop, hike, eat and enjoy time on the water. No cars are allowed on the island, so rent a bike and do some exploring.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Explore the 450’ high dunes along the shores of Lake Michigan.
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Enjoy the beaches, cliffs, hikes, waterfalls, and Inland Lakes at this park along Lake Superior.
Visit Belle Isle. Spent time on this beautiful island enjoying biking, hiking, snowshoeing, seeing museums, lighthouses, fishing, and more.
Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. Learn more about America’s innovators, ride a model-T, get on a steam-powered train, or visit an animal farm.
Isle Royale National Park. This is a remote national park where you can hike, kayak, canoe, scuba dive, and enjoy the peaceful nature vibes.
Go to Detroit Institute of Arts. World-class art museum including murals depicting Michigan history created by Diego Rivera.
Visit Holland’s Windmill Island. Try to go in the spring when 100,000 tulips will be blooming.
Tahquamenon Falls State Park. Spend the day outdoors exploring the upper and lower falls. You can camp, picnic, and hike.
Spend time in the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. Honor African Americans as you learn more about their history and contributions to the world.
Take a boat ride through Soo Locks. Visit the Soo Locks in Saulte Ste Marie where you can watch cruise ships, shipping boats, and smaller vessels use the locks. You can watch from the shoreline or hop on a boat and cruise through the locks.
Enjoy time in the German-inspired city of Frankenmuth. Take in the sights of the gingerbread-style homes, go to Oktoberfest, or enjoy a delicious German chicken dinner. It’s a charming town where you feel like you’ve crossed the Atlantic and entered Germany.
Explore Meijer Gardens. Visit and enjoy art, gardens, and concerts.
Go to a show at the Fox Theatre. This glitzy theatre first opened in 1928 and has been home to countless movies and shows since then. Check out the show schedule to discover a performance that you can enjoy in style.
Play a game of fowling in Hamtramck. Stop by the Fowling Warehouse to play a fun group game that is a combination of football and bowling. It’s a fun game for all ages!
