How to Create a Luxury Couples Getaway to Puerto Vallarta
Whether you are visiting Puerto Vallarta, Mexico via cruise or as a destination, it is an amazing city worth visiting! In this episode I’ll share our top tips for planning an epic trip to this vibrant destination!
Our family has been on 3 cruises with stops in Puerto Vallarta, and my husband and I have stayed at resorts there twice. We have loved every visit and have always had so much to do.
Getting there
We live in Phoenix, which is a quick 2 hour flight from Puerto Vallarta!
No matter where you live, Puerto Vallarta is accessible by airplane.
When to go
Puerto Vallarta has great weather year round! We have gone in the spring and fall, and it has been perfect every time. However, the summer will be very hot.
This is a great destination pretty much any time of year for a warm and relaxing destination.
Where to stay
Many cruises stop here as one of the stops. This is how we were able to take out kids to Puerto Vallarta on multiple occasions.
My husband and I stayed at the Secret’s Exclusive Resort and it was great! It was so beautiful and fun! The food was good, but not AMAZING. However, the convenience of the pool, lounge chairs, and beach access were huge benefits.
Most recently, we rented a house with friends in the Real Del Mar area. This is about 30 minutes north of the Puerto Vallarta airport. You can take an Uber or rental car to get to this area.
There are tons of great options on Airbnb as well!
Transportation
We have not rented a car while staying here. However, on our last trip, I wished we had a car simply to have more freedom about when and where we went.
Uber, taxi, and private drivers are also great options.
What to do
Catamaran boat ride
On our last Puerto Vallarta trip, we rented a catamaran for us and our friends. It was amazing! We had the boat for 4 hours, which was perfect.
We rented the boat through a company called Ally Cat Sailing Adventures. The package includes lots of food (so many snacks and a fajita lunch), drinks, smoothies, water toys/snorkel gear, and a driver.
The boat we rented holds about 20 guests.
Golf
We love golfing! It was so fun to check out the Higura Golf Course!
This course was amazing. It was on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
At hole 4, there is an INCLUDED taco and drink shack! How amazing is that?!
Rhythms of the Night
This excursion goes from about 5-11 pm.
You take an hour sunset boat ride to a beautiful, lush beach area.
Once you arrive, you are seated with your group, where you get to enjoy a delicious buffet meal. I usually don’t love buffets, but this one is good!
After dinner there is a show in a nearby amphitheater. There are acrobats, fire throwers, and more!
Relax at the beach
Head to the beach to swim and relax!
Hire a private chef
We hired a chef to come and make breakfast and afternoon snacks for us each day, as well as one of our dinners.
This was such a fun experience!
The chef provided us with menus for breakfast and snacks.
We were provided with so many delicious fruits, snacks, drinks, and meals.
The company we worked with is called KT Ring. I can’t find a website for them, but if you want details, email me at hello@thistraveltribe.com! (We got their info from our house host.)
Places to eat
Casa Teresa - such a magical vibe! It gave me Disneyland vibes! The architecture was amazing. And unexpectedly… It was Italian food! So delicious!
Tacos on the Street - we didn’t get to go, but it has amazing reviews! Go check it out for me!
