There are many fun things to do in Skagway. Most important, get outdoors and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you!
Things to Do in Skagway
Go on a bike tour. I contacted Sockeye Cycle Tours before the cruise and they told me that they only do tours through the cruise ships when they are in port. So I booked the Klondike Summit to Sea tour through the cruise line and it was managed by Sockeye Cycle. We loved the sights and the experience! There are a few different biking excursions so check them out. I’d repeat this excursion if we ever get to go back to Skagway.
Ride on the White Pass Scenic Railway. We didn’t have time for this, but I think it would make my list on a return visit. One person we talked to did the train to a hiking spot and that sounded like a perfect option.
We did the bike ride in the morning and then did a second excursion that afternoon. We took a ferry to Haines, Alaska, and then a bus ride to a wilderness Eagle Preserve. We rode a jet boat around the preserve for a couple of hours. We only saw one eagle but we did see a lot of beautiful scenery. The ferry ride and bus ride were both an hour each way so this included a large time commitment. Although we enjoyed it, we’d do something else next time.
