As I’ve been preparing to leave on my trip to France and Italy next week, I got thinking about how I wanted to document our vacation! I always take lots of pictures, but I wanted to do something special to remember our favorite moments on this trip.
After brainstorming some ideas, I came up with 6 tips to easily document your travels, and I’m going to share those with you in this post. Feel free to pick and choose ideas that resonate with you!
1. Write it down
The journaling part of travel can be very memorable. I suggest you buy a journal to take with you on your trip. You can bring a travel-specific journal or any blank journal that you like! My personal preference is these traveler's notebooks. Be creative with the different ways that you write! You can write anything you want from every single thing that you did during the day, or “Top 3 Things” from the day. Just write something! I promise you’ll love looking back on these memories.
2. Think about the photos
I recommend that you think about this before you leave on your trip. As you’re journaling and creating this little scrapbook, you’ll want to leave space for photos. This is why it’s important to decide what size of pictures you’re going to print out after the trip.
Another option is to bring an Instax mini 2 printer. Or a Polaroid camera! However, I love the mini printer because you don’t have to carry it around all day, and you get to pick the best photos of the day! It’s also super easy to use. All you do is download the app, connect via Bluetooth, and print your favorite pictures on Polaroid film! Click here to view the film and case for the printer.
3. Collect/purchase supplies
This step is optional, but I love to embellish my scrapbooks/journals with stickers, washi tape, stamps, or other fun papers. These can be used to jazz up your journal!
My favorite place to find embellishments for my travel journals is on Aliedwards.com. She has the cutest stuff for scrapbooking and she even had a travel-specific line. Amazon also has some decent options!
4. Put the pen to paper
Bringing a great pen (or two) is going to lead to a great travel journal experience! My current favorite is the Sharpie Gel Pens!
5. Travel pouch for supplies
Getting a travel pouch for supplies is going to be super convenient. Be careful not to overpack! Since you’re on vacation, don’t worry about making this journal super fancy. Keep it simple!
Also, pack some sort of adhesive that you can use to stick photos and embellishments in the journal! My favorite is American Crafts Sticky Thumb Tape Runner.
6. Take time each day to create
If you are wanting to make this travel scrapbook journal while traveling, I think that it’s important to make time each day to work on it. Just spend a few minutes here and there to add a little bit more to the journal. Travel days between destinations are also a great time to catch up! All you need is 10 minutes a day!
When I go on vacation, I tend to collect brochures and tickets and then forget to put them somewhere. With this journal, you can save these little keepsakes along with a description of your day.
