10 Great Destination Ideas to Think About When Traveling with Another Family

  1. Cruises. This may seem basic but it really does work great when traveling with another family. We have taken many cruises with another family and we all love it. The great things about a cruise are that it’s paid for ahead of time so most of the costs are already settled before leaving home. No one has to cook and there is always plenty to do on the boat.

  2. Beachside All-inclusives. Heading to Mexico or Florida to stay at an all—inclusive resort has many of the same benefits of cruising. The main difference is that you get to enjoy one location instead of a few ports. The food is included and there is space for everyone to spread and and do what they enjoy doing.

  3. Cabin All-inclusives. Do you remember the family camp from Dirty Dancing? What about sending the whole family to camp? You get lots of outdoor time, have planned activities, and do not have to do any cooking.

  4. Beach Camping. We used to go camping at the beach with another family every Memorial Day weekend. It was such a fun tradition. We aren’t big camping lovers but camping at the beach made it pretty great. We camped at South Carlsbad State Beach which required us to make reservations months ahead of time.

  5. Amusement Parks. This is a great option if your kids are similar ages to the family you will be traveling with. It’s fun to stick together and enjoy rides as a group and then divide up later in the day so people can repeat their favorite rides. It’s built-in entertainment all day long!

  6. Staying with friends or family. Traveling to stay with friends can be a fun way to vacation especially if you are on a tight travel budget. Or you can invite a family to come and stay at your house and you can do all of the fun things around town that you never seem to have time to do.

  7. Stay at a Dude Ranch. This is one our family has not done but I think it would be a really cool experience. These are generally all-inclusive experiences where the daily activities are planned along with the meals. It could be a great way to disconnect from the busy city life and step into a slower pace for a few days.

  8. Ski Trip. A fun way to travel with friends is to rent a cabin near a ski resort in the winter and go skiing. Those who don’t know how to ski can sign up for classes and others can hit the slopes. Meet up at the lodge for lunch and then head back to the cabin in the evening to share all of the day’s adventures.

  9. Pick a destination city. We love to vacation in Hawaii and try out staying on different islands. We’ve don’t this with friends a few times and it’s always fun to travel together. a bonus is that you can rent a house together and split the cost.

  10. Raft the Grand Canyon. Ward and I did this a few years ago and it was one of the best weeks of my life. (Not exaggerating.) Kids need to be age 8+. The Grand Canyon is stunning from the river and it’s a unique experience that you don’t want to miss. We used Grand Canyon Rafting Expeditions when we did our week-long trip. There is not any cell service in most of the canyon so it’s a great opportunity to unplug and connect with your family.
